Melinda Belew Owen

Melinda Belew Owen graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1994, with a double major in French and Theatre. She later graduated cum laude from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1998. In addition to her juris doctor degree, Ms. Owen received a Certificate in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine’s Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution.

While in law school, Ms. Owen was a member of the Honors Trial Advocacy Team for four semesters, competing with other law schools across the country. She won 1st Place in the ABA Intraschool Negotiation Tournament, 4th Place in the Regional ABA Interschool Negotiation Tournament, 2nd Place in the Defense Lawyers of San Diego Trial Advocacy Competition and 2nd Place in the National Trial Advocacy Competition (Regional Finals). She was named an Appellate Advocacy Fellow and a member of the Order of the Barristers. Ms. Owen also received the American Jurisprudence Award in Constitutional Law. During law school, Ms. Owen served as a law clerk for two judges, clerked at the Public Defender’s office and mediated small claims court cases in Los Angeles County. She also assisted in writing a death penalty appeal.

Ms. Owen has specialized in litigating medical malpractice and elder abuse cases since 1999. Ms. Owen resides in San Diego County and manages the firm’s satellite office in Carlsbad. She is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association.
