Thomas E. Beach

Mr. Beach graduated from the University of California (BA) and Pepperdine University School of Law (JD). Since 1980, his practice has been devoted to the defense of litigated personal injury claims. His practice focuses on the defense of health care providers, including skilled nursing, hospitals, physicians, long-term care, rehabilitation and managed care providers. Since the passage of the Elder Abuse and Dependent Adult Civil Protection Act (EADACPA), Mr. Beach has litigated, tried and participated in appeals of hundreds of cases involving allegations of elder abuse and medical injuries to dependent adults.

Mr. Beach has tried over 65 jury trials to verdict. Aside from litigation throughout the State of California, Mr. Beach has tried long-term care “elder abuse” cases in the states of Washington and Texas. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for California’s Southern, Central and Northern Districts.

Mr. Beach is a member of the DRI Medical Litigation Subcommittee, the National Health Lawyers Association, and the California Association of Health Facilities and is an Advocate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Mr. Beach has authored several articles related to long-term health care and defense litigation, including Constructing the Defense of an Elder Abuse Case (Mealy’s Long Term Care Conference 2003), Trends in Long Term Care Litigation (2002); Selected Issues in Nursing Home Litigation (Conference on Long-Term Care, Clearwater, Florida 1993); A Guide to the Elder Abuse Laws (1998); A Short History of Insurance Coverage for Sexual Abuse Torts, (1987). He has been a frequent program presenter on long-term care and elder abuse litigation for numerous organizations including the Defense Research Institute (DRI), Mealy’s Publications, California Medical Association, the Cooperative of American Physician Trust and the State Bar of California. Reported opinions include Regency Health Services, Inc. v. Superior Court (1998) 64 Cal.App.4th 1496; Goliger v. AMS Properties (2004) 123 Cal.App.4th 374; Accardi v. Superior Court (1993) 17 Cal.App.4th 341; and Lisa M. v. Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital (1995) 12 Cal.4th 291. He was trial counsel for the Mariner defendants in the Covenant Care v. Superior Court (2004) 32 cal. 4th 771, litigation.
